June 4, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, has revealed that he fired former presidential affairs minister Mayiik Ayii Deng from his position over the construction of the Juba-Rumbek highway.

The South Sudanese head of state on Tuesday fired Ayii for not doing much to ensure best practices are implemented in the construction of the Juba Rumbek highway by a Chinese road firm.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony for Nhial Deng Nhial, Kiir revealed that he dismissed Ayii because “the construction of the road started in a poor manner.”

The project is implemented by a Chinese firm under the direct supervision of Ayii.

The road was washed away by rains last month causing anger among social media activists with some calling for termination of the contract urging the government seek other companies that will provided lasting services.

The presidency said Kiir sated that he had no any problem with his former Minister Mayiik Ayii Deng but he fired him from the position because of the issue of the Bahr el Ghazal Road construction project.
