Kiir assures Al-Bashir of ‘full support’ in a phone call: statement

December 23rd, 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, on Saturday called Sudanese President, Field Marshal Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir, to assure him of his support and that of his country to the government of Sudan and its people amidst violent protest across many Sudanese towns.

For almost a week now, Sudanese towns including the capital Khartoum have witnessed violent protests over deteriorating economic conditions which has resulted in price hikes with a bread traded with six Sudanese pounds in the black market.

The protesters have chanted anti-government slogan calling for Al-Bashir to relinquish power.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Sudanese Presidency announced that the South Sudanese President has phoned the trouble Sudanese leader and reaffirmed his position that the stability of Sudan is crucial to peace and stability in South Sudan and the region.

“President of the Republic Omer Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir received a telephone call from the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit in which he affirmed that the stability of Sudan is crucial for a stable South Sudan and a guarantee of peace in the whole region,” the statement by the presidency said on Saturday.

“He ha assured President Al-Bashir of his full support for peace and stability in this country,” added the statement.

In South Sudan, a government official in the ministry of foreign affairs stressed urged the Sudanese people to be calm and give leaders a chance to make right what might have gone wrong in the country saying the Sudanese will be the one who will pay huge costs if the country plunged to chaos.

“They will pay the highest price ten times than now. So, they need to be calm,” the official who preferred not to be named told the Nyamilepedia.
