September 25th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit has on Monday appointed Gen. Malek Reuben who is under United Nations sanctions for derailing the ongoing peace process along side other government military figures, as the country’s deputy defense minister.
The SPLA General who is under UN sanction for reportedly planning an offensive which targeted civilians in Southern Unity State in 2015 according to a report by the Panel of Experts on South Sudan in January 2016 was the SPLA Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics at the time.
General Malek was one of a group of senior security officials who planned the offensive against the SPLM-IO, beginning in January 2015, and subsequently oversaw its execution from late April 2015 onward according to their report.
In a degree read out on the state owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir appointed the blacklisted General to the position which has been vacant since May after removing then deputy minister of defense Gen. Thoi Chany Reat.
In a related development, President Kiir replaced Moses Hassan Tiel with Gen. Paul Mayom Akec as the Minister of Trade and Industry. Moses Hassan served in the position since 2016 until yesterday.
