November 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed General Gathoth Gatkuoth as the new governor for Latjor state, according to a decree read out on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC) on Wednesday.
Two decrees were read on the state-owned TV: One dismissing Elijah Liech Bany as the Latjor state governor and the other replacing him with General Gathoth Gatkuoth.
General Gatkuoth, a former minister of labor, is a controversial figure who has differences with South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai whom he accused of failing to unite the SPLM-IO internal front.
Gathoth has expressed his disagreement with the continuation of Taban as the First Vice President saying the president should appoint another person from other states because he said SPLM-IO leader who come from Unity state like Taban was going to be appointed as FVP as provided for in the revitalized peace agreement.
