Kiir and Machar to ‘lose power’ on Independence Day, claims Abraham Chol

Juba, South Sudan,

June 25, 2021 – Controversial cleric and self-acclaimed prophet Abraham Chol claims that a new leadership shall be ushered in for South Sudan on the country’s Independence Day as both President Salva Kiir and his deputy Dr. Riek Machar will be out of power.

Mr. Chol, the leader of Cush International Church, says in a banner widely circulated on social media that a new president was coming on 9th July when South Sudan marks its 10th independence anniversary.

“Happy independence of 9th July 2021 to the people of the land of Cush, South [Sudan]. By divine kingship authority, I decree and declare that the time of the current President H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit and his Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and all movements who are fighting for power is finished,” he wrote.

He added that the same day will be marked by two major events that include farewell and thanksgiving for the two current leaders.

“This means the independence celebration for this year will mark two big events; Farewell to H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit and Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and thanksgiving for their good service to the nation for the last 37 years of struggle, reception, and welcoming of the new young president for the Republic of South Sudan,” Chol claims.

He called on citizens to forgive one another and forget the past as they enter the new political dispensation in question.

“Because of this, I call all the country [sic] to give thanks to God, and to forgive one another and forget the past and be ready for the new beginning and new government,” he says.

Mr. Chol commands a large following at his controversial church using superstitious and false claims of hope according to some of his congregation.

In May last year, he was arrested for breaching the COVID-19 safety measures and crowding his congregations on the claim that “God would wipe out the pandemic”.
