May 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudanese president Salva Kiir Mayaradiit has admitted for the first time that workers are facing many problems across South Sudan during a Labour Day message he sent to the nation on Saturday breaking his long-time tradition for the issue.

In his message, president Kiir paid tribute to workers both in the public and private sector across South Sudan.

“I pay tribute to our gallant workers both in the public and private sectors who work tirelessly despite difficult conditions including high inflation as well as the ongoing months without pay owing to our economic situation that came about as result of this senseless war,” Kiir said in a message aired by the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Saturday.

Kiir promised the nation that his government will operationalize its pension program for the retirees in the near future adding that the 1st of May is “An occasion to reflect on the contribution of the labor force towards economic development of our country”.

In October 2014, the ministry of labor and public services said it was collecting pension files from the states in order to operationalise the process shortly after the government said it had established a pension fund.

In recent years, South Sudan economy have seen setbacks due to the current civil war taking place in the country.
