August 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit has accused his faction of the army, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army – in Government (SPLA-IG) of attacking and looting humanitarian convoys.
Kiir uttered his accusation while addressing the army about the peace agreement in Bilpam on Thursday.
In his address to the SPLA-IG, Kiir informed his soldiers that he has been receiving reports of threats by the army to the humanitarian convoys delivering aides to different vulnerable communities in the country..
“The complaint we are receiving everyday is that there are soldiers among you, who go to the bush and threaten those in the convoys and take from them money, phones and whatever they want,” he said.
Kiir further said what the army is doing is not the right thing to do for the army as it it contradict the military rules and ethics saying the army should adhere to the declared permanent ceasefire agreement which he and Machar, the leader of the SPLA-IO, signed in Khartoum early this month.
“No. This is not right. If you are doing it, you stop it now. It’s now time for peace. Don’t do it again,” he said adding that “The army should adhere to the ceasefire and allow the humanitarian organizations deliver assistance to anywhere they want to go.”
