November 18th, 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit has unexpectedly canceled a planned trip to the Mangateen IDPs site where hundreds of families are being accommodated.
Mangateen is one example of the sites that massacres against Nuer civilians took place in December 2013 following a flare-up of violence during a National Convention for the ruling SPLM party at Nyakuron Cultural Centre.
The massacre in Mangateen as well as in other parts of Juba ignited Africa’s most brutal civil war mostly fought along ethnic lines between supporters of President Salva Kiir, an ethnic Dinka, and those loyal to the former vice president, Dr. Riek Machar, an ethnic Nuer.
Several sources told the Nyamilepedia on Saturday that President Kiir had to cancel a planned trip to the Mangateen’s neighborhood following after the protocol has already readied for his arrival.
“Yes, President Kiir canceled the trip to Mangateen. We were just informed that the President will not be going to the site where refugees are stationed,” one source told the Nyamilepedia without elaboration.
Another source said they were disappointed after learning that Kiir will not be going saying they have been waiting and organizing for all day.
“It’s really frustrating. We have been doing the organizational work expecting the President this afternoon,” the source said.
