July 11th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, discussed in a meeting on Wednesday, the ongoing peace process in South Sudan between the government and the opposition forces, with the United States-Africa Command Commander, Gen. Thomas Waldhauser.

The meeting came in a time when a pro-government proposal unveil in Entebbe on Saturday by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir threatens to interrupt the ongoing peace talks in Khartoum which has seen ‘unprecedented’ progress since the collapse of the Transitional Government of National Unity in July 2016.

Political turmoil in South Sudan, according to the Kenyan leader Uhuru Kenyatta, has been made worse by “unwarranted fear and mistrust” between supporters of President Salva Kiir and those of Dr. Riek Machar.

President Kenyatta, however, said the hope to restore stability in South Sudan is not lost and partner-states working towards peace in the region will remain committed to the cause.

“We shall give it everything we can. But it is not going to be easy”, he told the visiting United States Commander.

The meeting also discussed the ongoing crisis in the eastern African country of Somalia.
