Kenyatta National Hospital Health workers issue a strike notice

Sep 21, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Health workers at the Kenyatta National hospital have issued a one week strike notice following what they say is a failure to implement a salary review that was agreed upon back in 2012.

Several departments in the facility have come together to issue the strike notice including Kenya National Union of Nurses, Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists, Dentists Union, the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Education institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA).

The members of the workforce have claimed that they had written to the hospital management raising issues they wanted addressed.

The major issue remains proposed salary revision for KNH staff in line with re-categorization of PC 7A which the management have failed to implement after several attempts to have the matter resolved. PC 7A is a categorization for parastatals.

“In view of the above, we now demand that the hospital implement salary for all employees working in your facility as approved by the state advisory committee through a letter dated September 13, 2012 within seven days’ failure to which all employees represented by the signed unions will commence a strike on September 28 2020,” read the letter.

While addressing the press this morning, the workers put the blame on the Salaries and Remuneration Commission for failing to handle the situation.

They say the SRC is the one mandated to actualize the salary issue but instead it has been quite.

The letter was addressed to the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Work protection.

Other ministries that were copied are finance and health ministries.
