Kenya’s Interfaith council calls on politicians to stop public gatherings

Sep 29, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The Kenya’s Interfaith Council for Corona pandemic has called on the politicians to call off their political gathering until the pandemic is completely subdued.

Speaking in Nairobi when issuing the new guidelines for the second phase of reopening of churches, the council’s chairman Archbishop Anthony Muheria said that the political rallies are the worst hit by covid-19 guidelines irregularities.

“We have unfortunately witnessed not only total faulting of the all Covid guidelines, rules and protocols but even the total lack of decency and respect especially with political class.” He said.

The Archbishop went on to ask the politicians to stop gambling with the lives of Kenyans as the rallies attendees completely fault Covid-19 guideline.

“We as the interfaith council wish to appeal to you our dear political leaders that you should not gamble with the lives of Kenyans. Please we ask you to in this Covid time, please postpone your political public gatherings that put our people at risk because they gather without masks and without social distance.” Said Archbishop Muheria.

He went on to say that the church is ready for the phase two of reopening where they will welcome the elderly above 65years and young ones below 6 years.

The Interfaith chairman reiterated that President Kenyatta’s yesterday call on the second phase of church reopening.

The Archbishop said that starting Friday, 2nt October, the number of people allowed will be determined by 1.2 m social distance and the time duration will be 2 hours.

However, the sick and the vulnerable were asked to stay at home and follow the proceeding on televisions or over the internet.
