Sep 29, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Deputy president William Ruto missed the Monday Covid-9 briefing conference at the Kenyatta international Conference Centre (KICC) raising questions whether he was invited.
His absence from the state function that was being addressed by the president further raised speculations that the two are not in good terms.
The statehouse spokesperson confirmed to a local media station that the deputy president was indeed invited but she did not know why he missed the occasion.
“Yes he was invited but didn’t attend and I cannot know why, maybe you can find out from him or his communication team the reason behind his no-show,” State House spokesperson Kanze Dena said.
Statehouse sources confirmed that DP Ruto was supposed to speak after opposition leader Raila Odinga and usher in the president for the final speech.
His absence, however, paved ways for the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Security Dr. Fred Matiangi to invite the president.
Dr Ruto’s spokesman Emmanuel Talam upon being asked why the DP did not attend the conference, gave a simple answer: “I don’t know if he was invited”.
The event organizer said that all the officials were informed in time including the deputy president.
The DP was even included in the program as one of the speakers of the day.
“All government officials were aware and were invited. We invited all stakeholders, including the DP. He is the DP,” said an organizer.
This has brought a lift between the followers of each of the two leaders.
Those close to the DP have aired their views on social media saying that Ruto has never been invited in other covid-19 meetings.
“Let’s stop the hypocrisy. If WSR’s contribution counted, how come he has never been invited to any GOK Covid response meeting ? Now you want him to join the Covid millionaires in sharing their looting success!! No to sanitizing the Kemsa scammers .” Wrote Kericho County senator Aaron Cheruiyot
“So they want to PRETEND @WilliamsRuto missed this one? After deliberately keeping him out of their meetings since March hoping to use the pandemic to “SHINE”.Now since the ONLY SHINING & achievement frm it has been the #KEMSACovidHEIST,You want 2 use WSR to sanitize the FILTH?NO!.” Kimani ichungwa wrote.
The leaders who are Pro Kenyatta described the DPs actions as a disrespect to the president.
David Murathe, who seemed to have been angered by the actions of the DP, said that he has no job and that his role has been taken over by CS Matiangi.
“He may be on his way out of the party, and possibly out of the Government, he is on record saying he has no job, let’s wait and see”. Murathe said.
Where was the DP?
In other news, the Hustler was busy doing what hustlers do, socializing with youth in what others termed as a violation of COVID-19 measures.
“Leaders must work towards engaging the youth and women in productive activities that would not just earn them an income but also keep them busy, away from participating in anti-social behaviour.” DP William Ruto wrote on his social media fan page.
The DP was holding an empowerment event at his Karen residence in Nairobi County.
“We must change Kenya’s political conversation from power to empowerment and positions to creation of jobs.”He said.
His event was attended by at least 100 people and whether they worn masks or not remains to be questioned.
“During the empowerment of more than 70 youth and women groups from Nairobi County in the company of MPs @KiarieJohn (Dagoretti South), @nixon_korir (Lang’ata), @KIMANIICHUNGWAH (Kikuyu), @HonJumwa (Malindi), George Theuri (Embakasi West), Benjamin Mwangi (Embakasi Central), Nominated Senator @MillicentOmanga, former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, politician @EliudOwalo and more than 40 MCAs, Karen residence, Nairobi County.” DP Said.
