Oct 7, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The national security council today held a press briefing to address the issue of growing political tension in the country with the view to maintain peace and security and promote the rule of law in its deliberations.
The Head of Public services, Joseph Kinyua addressed the issue of politicians taking advantage of vulnerable Kenyans that is occasioned by among other issues, the social economic status.
He alleged that politicians attempt to further their political agenda by inciting the youths who are fearful of their future.
Mr. Kinyua added that these politicians radicalize the youths to the point where they fight and in one-point kill each other.
With that in mind, the head of public services gave new directives on public meetings.
“All public meetings and public proceedings shall be held in strict compliance with Section 5 of the Public Orders Act Cap 56 laws of Kenya,” Kinyua said.
“All citizens are to be peaceful and non-violent and shall keep to the designated places of public meetings or procession.” He added.
He added that, to hold a public meeting, one must notify the police at least three days prior.
Mr. Kinyua cautioned the public from writing or passing on information that could be termed as inciting others or could promote violence.
“All social media users shall be held individually liable for all content on their profiles pursuant to the NCIC Act on prevention of dissemination of undesirable political messages/ social media content.” Joseph Kinyua
“Every social media user should; Ensure all their content is not written in a hate speech, ethnic or incitement tone. Authenticate and validate their messages before forwarding, to limit spreading rumours.” He added.
He also cautioned the media from desist from providing a platform to hate mongers, inciters and tribalists.
His address came when chaos started erupting in areas where political events are to be held with the latest being the violence in Kenol Muranga.
