Sep 25, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The Kenyan ministry of tourism and wildlife has announced that the Nairobi National Park wildlife ecosystem has been expanded to 78000 acres after 49000 acres were added to its previous 29000 acres.

This happened after International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Swara conservancy and the government gave their piece of land for the noble cause.

According to the press release shared by the ministry, ILRI gave out 32000 acres while Swara Conservancy gave 15000 for wildlife conservation in Machakos county.

The government added 200 acres from the sheep and goat ranch.

The ministry said that this will provide a wildlife corridor to connect the Nairobi park, ILRI and the Swara Conservancies.

The CS for tourism and Wildlife, Najib Balala, handed over the registration certificate to the two conservancies in a colorful event at the Swara Conservancy yesterday.

“I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely hank the two conservancies on behalf of the government and the people of Kenya for this wonderful gift that will ensure our unique biodiversity thrives for posterity. this will be an essential wildlife corridor for the animal population in Nairobi national Park,” the tourism cabinet secretary, Najb Balala said.

He added that the park is not big enough to meet the ecological requirements of its wildlife population throughout the year.

Mr. Balala said the ministry is looking into acquiring additional 1500 acres to extend the park to Ngong forest as this will enable the Nairobi national park to be listed and declared a world heritage site.

The CS officially inaugurated the taskforce on wildlife corridors connectivity between Nairobi national Park and Athi-KApiti plains.

“Their work is crucial and I expect that this taskforce will in the next three months clearly indicate where we will create a corridor to enable wildlife to migrate freely from Nairobi National Park to Swara-Kapiti Plains,” the press statement further stated.
