Oct 5, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The ministry of health today reported 22 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours after testing just 535 samples to bring the national tally to 39,449 infections.

The low number of samples analyzed shows that Kenya’s testing capabilities have reduced.

The health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Rashid Aman said that Kenya’s counts are affected by an inefficiency in testing and manual system of submitting figures from different parts of the country.

“This means that what is announced in the last 24 hours does not necessarily represent the actual figures of that duration.” Dr. Rashid said.

Dr. Rashid added that 21 of the cases were Kenyans with one foreigner.

Most of today’s cases were reported in Nairobi Metropolitan.

The CAS added that 98% of all cases in the country were transmitted locally.

“This means that almost the entire confirmed cases have been contracted as a result of the spread in our households, estates, markets, villages and other social and public places,” Dr Aman said.

Dr. Aman reported 376 recoveries with 360 from home based care and 16 from various hospitals in the country.

The total number of recoveries in the country now stands at 27,035

Sadly, four people succumbed to the virus raising the number of fatalities to 735.

Dr. Aman warned that Kenya might experience a second wave of the virus as many people have stopped following the COVID-19 regulations.

“If we continue with those behaviours, then we are certainly going to see a second spike in our infection trajectory. We do not wish to see that as it will mean that there will be more restrictions placed,” said Dr Aman.
