Sep 26, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The Kenyan police has arrested at least ten people suspected to be illegal immigrants from Ethiopia and Eritrea in Samburu County of Kenya this morning.
Speaking to media, the Samburu county deputy police commander Tom Makori said they have arrested at least ten i”illegal immigrants” from two vehicles they randomly searched in Samburu county.
“Today in the morning, our officers who were on patrol along Maralal and Opiroi road, they intercepted a suspicious driven vehicle, two motor vehicles and upon search, they found 10 foreigners who are suspected to be Ethiopians,” said Samburu county deputy police commander Tom Makori.
According to the deputy police commander, the foreigners were two women and eight men. Nine were Ethiopians and one Eritrean.
He said they were arrested for being in the country without valid documents.
Makori claimed that they were suspected to be enroute to Nairobi.
The police deputy commander said that upon interrogating them, the immigrants said that they were headed to south Africa.
He said that they will be detained in their custody and will be arraigned in court in the next Court day.
Two drivers, who are Kenyans, were also arrested and charged for ferrying illegal immigrants and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
The immigrants were being ferried in two cars that were also detained in the police station.
The commissioner strictly warned drivers to stop “such kind of business”.
He said transporting foreigners without valid documents is endangering the lives of Kenyans and is not acceptable adding that those who will be caught will be dealt with by the law.
He also urged the members of the community to report such people or vehicles whenever they spot them in the area.
