Lokiri appeared before the High Court in Juba on Friday for the first time following nearly two months of investigations.

He was accused of killing the three siblings in August this year at Rocky city in Juba, an act that caused outrage in Juba and on South Sudanese social media.

According to the police statement, which was read before the court by Col. George Lado Wani and believed to have been recorded by the accused, Babu Emmanuel Lokiri, during investigations, Babu narrated the tragic incident as follow:

“I went to the home of my uncle who is close to my mother. I usually go there. When I went there I had a knife with me. When I knocked on the door, the middle daughter of my uncle came and opened the door.” Read part of the statement.

“I found them watching television. I then put my phone to charge. I asked them where their mother was and they said she had gone out. When my phone charged a bit, I pocketed it. They were watching children’s programs and I asked them to change the channel and they refused. I asked them for the remote of the television and they said there was no remote, then I got angry,” The Police statement continued.

According to the investigative report, Babu confessed that he used Machete to killed the three siblings of age 9, 7 and 4 year old.

Babu is said to be a close relative to the family of the victims. His mother also attended the court session as she is accused of concealing evidence.

The police has presented all the evidence including video clips showing how the crime was committed; however, the court, which was presided over Judge Duoth Kulang, was adjourned to Monday for defense and the presecutors to cross examine and weight the evidence.
