Juba, South Sudan
October 17, 2021—In response to addressing congestion on the roads, the town mayor of Juba City, Hon. Kalisto Lado, justifies his recent decision to destroy businesses, shops and property that he believes were erected on the roads.
In a recorded clip, Mayor Lado, who spoke while addressing the owners of Abyei shops, said in order to ensure better water delivery, or any other services, the roads must be opened and that could not have happened without taking the decisions he is currently taking.
” Now after we made the arrangement and open this road 40 very wide, we will make sure that each and every house will have its water”, Lado promised.
The mayor blames the shop owners for poor law enforcement in the city saying that if crimes are still committed in some parts of the city and the police does not respond in time, it must be due to congestion on the road that delays police vehicles from reaching the scenes of crimes on time.
” Now it is very difficult for security operatives to carry out their work because of congestion and road blockage by your shops and if the good security is not enjoyed here it is because of your job not because of security organ because if they want to come here they will not reach on time due to roads congestion “, he added.
Lado also advised people to put the country interest above all individuals interest so that South Sudan can prosper.
The mayor, however, does not address any compensation for the business and property owners who are likely to incur loses in such demolition campaigns.
