November 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan journalist who disappeared two weeks ago is being detained at the National Security Services (NSS) headquarters in Juba, the Dawn Newspaper said Wednesday.
Emmanuel Monychol – who works at the Dawn as the editor-in-chief and was arrested and then released by the NSS last month – went missing two weeks ago and the newspaper said on Wednesday that they have learned that the journalist is being detained by the NSS.
“It is 14 days and counting since The Dawn Newspaper woke up to the news of the disappearance of its Editor in Chief, Emmanuel Monychol Akop. This came on the back of an earlier arrest by the National Security Services in mid-October,” the newspaper said in a statement.
“The Dawn has been quiet over the past two weeks hoping and waiting, two weeks in which it had been difficult to contemplate the fate of Emmanuel,” it added.
The newspaper that it has come to its knowledge that the journalist “being held at the National Security Services headquarters, and formally charged without being.”
Monycol was arrested last month following comments he made regarding the dressing of foreign minister Awut Deng.
