Jonglei State Security shutdowns media house and detained Journalists.

August 28, 2021 — The South Sudan National Security Service has closed Radio Jonglei and detained all reporters including Program Manager and Editor-in-chief Deng Gai Deng at NSS office in Bor town.

The NSS also confiscated all communication devices and media tools found at media station.
According to the information received by Nyamilepedia, a Civil Society Activist, Bol Deng Bol said three  journalists who are identified as Mr. Matuor Mabior Ayang who serves as Station Manager, Mr. Ayuel Garang Kur, the Program Manager and Deng Gai Deng who is the editor-in-chief were detained in Bor and their female Cashier Ms. Aluel Kut Angeth has been detained within Radio Station.
“This afternoon, NSS stormed Radio Jonglei, ordering indefinite closure of the Radio station. In the process, communication devices of the Staffs found at the station at the time were confiscated (phones), Mr. Matuor Mabior Anyang, the Station Manager, Mr. Ayuen Garang Kur, the Program Manager and Mr. Deng Ghai Deng, Editor- in-Chief were later arrested and detained at NSS Office in Bor. In addition, the Cashier, Ms. Aluel Kut Angeth is detained within the Radio Station”,Bol Deng said.
Deng condemned the situation and termed it as “unlawful” attack on the media in the state and calls on the National Security to unconditionally release the detained journalists.
“I CONDEMN this unlawful attack on the media in the state and call on the National Security to release the Journalists under detention and without conditions, allow the Radio Station back on air”,he added.
