December 11th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Joint Defense Board (JDB) will, on Wednesday, hold its first meeting in the South Sudanese capital Juba, several sources in the capital Juba have told the Nyamilepedia.
The Juba high-level military gathering will bring together Defense Chiefs from the South Sudan government, the SPLA-IO and other opposition groups who are signatories to the September 12 revitalized agreement signed by all the parties in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
The meeting which came as part of efforts by the groups to implement the September agreement, sources have said, will include also the directors of national security from the government and the opposition as well as head of police forces from both sides.
In September, South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon as well as other opposition leaders signed the revitalized peace agreement in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
The agreement came after a lengthy regional effort to end the ongoing conflict in South Sudan which engulfed the nation in December 2013 following a flare-up of violence during a national convention for the ruling SPLM party at Nyakuron Cultural Centre in the nation’s capital Juba.
The violence later engulfed the country’s Presidential Guard, or Tiger Battalion fitting Dinka members of the group against the Nuer members igniting what later became the most brutal civil war in Africa.
