October 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Jikany intellectuals have condemned – in a statement a decision by Maiwut state minister of health early this month renaming all the health facilities in the area after President Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President Taban Deng Gai and other prominent politicians.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Jikany Intellectuals said they condemn the decision saying they were surprise by the action of the state health minister.

“On behalf of Jikany Nuer Intellectuals and on my own behalf, I am here by condemning with the strong possible term the altering act against the locational names of the Waiwut Health Facilities,” a statement signed by SB Chiok Guek extended to Nyamilepedia partly read.

“It was a big surprise, dismaying and deepest disappointment to learn that the so called Maiwut Health Minister  made unexpected mistake to issue the state decree in term of the hand written paper and stamped with official stamp dated on 25-09-2019 titled “Maiwut Health Ministerial order no: (2) re-naming some of the health facilities,'” the statement added.

“The affected 10 Health facilities re-named to individuals (politicians) names includes: Maiwut Hospital,  Pagak Primary Healthcare Unit, Malow Primary Healthcare Unit, Uleng Primary Healthcare Unit, Jotome Primary Healthcare Unit, Wunkir Primary Healthcare Unit, Malual Primary Healthcare Unit, Pinythor primary healthcare unit, Turu Primary Healthcare Unit and Dajo Primary Healthcare Unit.

“The true historical background of the above mentioned health facilities were established by  different governments and NGOs long time ago, and therefore the motive to easily re-name the locational names of the public institutions with the individual names because of the recent defection of Gen. Ochan Puot and his group in Waiwut it doesn’t make sense and it sound helpless to the Community.

“For what reason you recognize and gave a credit to President Salva Kiir and his deputy Gen. Taban Deng by renaming already established healthcare or hospitals in Jikany Nuer territory while they are the ones sponsoring the country instability as the opportunity for them to continue channeling the national resources to benefits their families, in which they take their close relatives aboard to seek better treatment and educate their children in the foreign Countries.”
