Juba, South Sudan,
June 18, 2021 – Authority in Panyijar County of Unity State says another humanitarian worker attached with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been killed in Nyal Payam of Panyijar County in embattled Unity State.
The aid worker had a video hall in the area where people used to pay money to watch international football matches but a relative who had no money to pay to watch football matches felt disgruntled when he was asked to leave the hall.
“The deceased had a place for football, so he advised the other one to pay for the game. Actually, they are relatives. He [the entertainee] was told to go home to bring the money he went and picked his gun and when the guy [aid worker] was going home, he was
attacked, that’s it,” said Panyijar County Commissioner Col. William Gatjiek Mabor.
Speaking to the media, the commissioner said the county authority was working very hard to bring the culprits to justice. It is unclear whether this was a revenge killing.
The Director of the International Rescue Committee in South Sudan said the recurring attacks of aid workers will negatively affect and derail the service delivery to the needy people in the area.
Last month, a medical worker working for International Rescue Committee in Ganyiel Payam was killed in Panyijiar County. The government ordered investigations into the killing.
Two days ago, authorities in Panyijiar County announced that they arrested two suspects in connection with the Killing of Dr. Louis Edward Saleh.
Mabor still urges the national government to conduct very a practical exercise about the matter so that the prime details pertaining to the killing are unearthed.
