June 23rd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The special envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Sudan and South Sudan said the international community will not support any peace agreement in South Sudan that is not implementable but the international community will firstly needs to be assured that there is a real political will to implement the peace agreement.

Ambassador Nicholas Haysom, the special envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Sudan and South Sudan, who was speaking during the 32nd extraordinary summit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) assembly of heads of state and government in Addis Ababa said the international community will only support an agreement if it is sustainable.

“The international community will actively support an agreement if it’s sustainable and implementable,” said the UN envoy.

He said the conflict in South Sudan cannot be dragged on to inflict further deaths in the young African nation.

“The conflict in South Sudan cannot be dragged and inflicting further death and destruction as agreements break down,” he added.

Speaking at the same forum, the representative of Troika, the Norwegian Ambassador, Erling Skjoesberg, said the super powers will not support peace that do not bring together South Sudanese peace.

“The international community will not support any peace deal that cannot bring South Sudanese together.” said the ambassador.

The official said any transitional government of national unity must be preceded by a credible cessation of hostility agreement in South Sudan between warring parties who are fighting on the ground.

“The transitional government of national unity that will move the peace process forward must start with the credible cession of hostilities, a sustained commitment by South Sudan leaders and the agreement that would like a genuine exclusivity of South Sudan citizens in the executive authority and decision making,” the envoy added.
