March 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Independent Boundary Commission (IBC) provided for in the revitalize peace agreement will convene its first meeting in the capital Juba today according to a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia by the regional bloc, IGAD.
Last week, the leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), Gabriel Changson Lew Chang told the Nyamilepedia in Cairo that the Technical Boundary Committee (TBC) will complete its work this week and the IBC would meet today.
In a statement issued on Sunday and extended to the Nyamilepedia, the regional body’s special envoy for South Sudan’s office said a meeting will be conducted in Juba to constitute the IBC.
“The meeting for the reconstitution of the South Sudan Independent Boundary Commission (IBC) will take place on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Hotel Palm Africa in Juba, South Sudan,” said the statement.
The IBC consists of 15 members nominated among the Parties, supported by five experts nominated by the member states of the African Union High Level Ad Hoc Committee on South Sudan (South Africa, Algeria, Chad, Nigeria and Rwanda).
Pursuant to the R-ARCSS, the commission will consider the report of the Technical Boundary Committee (TBC) on the South Sudan tribal boundaries as they stood on 1 January 1956. The IBC is expected to deliver their decision in 90 days.
