September 5th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – IGAD Special Envoy Ismail Wais is in Juba and met on Wednesday President Salva Kiir Mayardit over the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, the presidency said in a statement.

Last month, the IGAD convened a meeting of the parties to the agreement after saying the implementation of the revitalized peace deal was facing some challenges saying there was no progress being made.

President Kiir and opposition groups signed the peace pact in September last year in Addis Ababa following tough talks in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and were expected to form a unity government in May.

However, pre-transitional activities supposed to be in place by May 12 were not ready and the parties decided to extend the pre-interim period for November, six months after the initial dateline.

“President Salva Kiir and IGAD Special Envoy discussed the status of the peace implementation especially the formation of Transitional Government of National Unity,” the presidency said in a statement.

During the meeting at the State House in Juba, the Special Envoy Wais – according to the statement – expressed appreciation for the steps taken by the Parties in the implementation of the revitalized Peace agreement.
