April 22, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Council of Ministers will meet on Thursday to discuss the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement in South Sudan.

In a statement on Wednesday, the regional body said the meeting will discuss the status of the revitalized peace agreement and the impact of the coronavirus on its implementation.

The meeting – the statement said – will be followed by a press briefing on Friday by the IGAD special envoy on South Sudan, Ismail Wais, over the outcome of the meeting.

The regional meeting comes after the parties to the revitalized peace agreement failed yo agree on the allocation of state governors as provided for in the peace agreement.

In September 2018, President Salva Kiir’s government, Dr. Riek Machar’s SPLM-IO, South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) led by Josephine Lagu, Other Opposition Parties (OPP) signed the peace agreement.

It calls for the division of the state governors by the signatories.
