June 7th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has invited members of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance for consultation (SSOA) ahead of the next round of talks and the expected face-to-face meeting between South Sudanese President Kiir and Rebel leader Riek Machar.
The IGAD special envoy Ismail Wais in a letter dated 6th June seen by the Nyamilepedia has invited 9 representative of the nine-member alliance for peace consultation which is expected to take place between 16-18 June 2018.
“It therefore gives me pleasure to request your excellency to nominate nine (9) delegates (one from each member of the alliance) to attend this consultation,” he wrote in the letter addressed to the Opposition Alliance yesterday.
The regional bloc’s envoy urged women representation as per the IGAD policy for the inclusion of female in the South Sudan peace process.
“I would also respectfully remind you to ensure that women are represented in your delegation,” the letter added.
South Sudan last round of the High-Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF) faltered in mid May after the the regional body unveiled a peace proposal that seek to divide power between Kiir’s government, Machar’s SPLM-IO and the South Sudan’s Opposition Alliance.
The peace proposal, which aimed at creating a third vice-president position, gave the government the position of the President and the vice President while the SPLM-IO under Machar to get the position of the First Vice President which it previously held and the Opposition Alliance, SPLM former detainees and political parties under the government to share the position of third vice-president.
