February 3rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A high-level IGAD border delegation is in South Sudan’s capital Juba to access the borders of the states which existed in 1956, 2011, 2015 and 2017 as increased by President Salva Kiir Mayardiit in October 2015.

The team, according to statements issued on Thursdays in Juba wants South Sudan’s Council of States to produce the map outlining borders of states so as to help them carry out necessary measures in solving the states and border issue.

“In order to do our diligently, we need your support in helping us to identify the paramount chiefs not only as of now, but right from the [19] 50s,” the head of the visiting committee, Dr. Edith Namutebi, told Journalists on Thursday in Juba.

Namutebi said the maps required by the committee include the ones from 1956, 2011, 2015 and 2017.

“We need the official administrative map of South Sudan as of January 1st 1956. We also would appreciate to get the map that was done in 2015 that led to the establishment of 28 states, and the one that was done in 2017,” she said.

South Sudan president in 2015 decided to increase the number of South Sudanese states from 10 to 28 causing international condemnations with arguments that the new border states violates a peace agreement that was signed on the based on 10 states.

In January 2017, President Kiir decided to increase the number of the states to 32 including the disputed area of Abyei.
