June 21st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Council of Ministers of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development  (IGAD) in the 32nd Extraordinary meeting held today in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa endorsed the bridging proposal unveiled last month by the regional mediation to the South Sudanese warring parties.
The revised peace proposal gives 55% of the government porfolios to the incumbent South Sudanese government, 25% to Machar’s SPLM-IO and 20% to be divided between other opposition groups as follow: South Sudan Opposition Alliance 10%, Former SPLM political detainees to get 5% and Political parties allied to the government to get 5% as well.
According to the revised version of the last month’s peace proposal, current South Sudan government will maintain the position of the President and the second vice president, Machar’s SPLM-IO will occupy the First Vice-President position while other opposition groups (Oposition Alliance, Former SPLM Political Detainees, parties allied to the government) to get the position of the third vice president with the condition that the post holder must be a woman.
The proposal which is due to be given to the warring parties next week gives 35% of government positions to women. Also the deputy Speaker of the Parliament must be a woman according to the revised peace bridging proposal.
