April 27th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A high-level delegation of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development which is negotiating a peace process between South Sudan’s warring parties will visit the nation’s capital Juba on Sudan, Minister of Information and the government spokesman Micheal Makuei Lueth has revealed.
Makuei revealed the high-level visit by IGAD delegation during a regular press briefing after a weekly Cabinet meeting in Juba. He said all the concerned ministers are urged to get ready for a preparatory meeting in Juba on Saturday before welcoming the delegation on Sunday.
“All the ministers concerned are informed to get ready for a preparatory meeting likely to take place tomorrow (Saturday),” he said
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) said on Thursday that it has postponed the next round of the South Sudan’s peace process to the 17th of May and warring parties through their negotiating teams are expected to sign an agreement not latter than 21st of May.
Previously, the South Sudanese peace talks was adjourned indefinitely and the mediation announced that the peace process will be conducted between the 3rd and 7th of May after an early schedule of 26th of April was adjourned.
IGAD is currently trying to bring back a peace deal which collapsed in July 2016 between the South Sudan government under Kiir and rebels loyal to the country’s former First Vice President Riek Machar Teny.
South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 after government troops and militias loyal to President Kiir and his then Northern Bahr Al-Ghazal Governor Gen. Paul Malong Awan went door-to-door to kill Nuer civilians sparking a natrion-wide protest from top SPLA, country’s official army, generals especially among the Nuer leading to civil war.
Ten of thousands of people have been killed and almost half of the country’s 12 million population has been displaced some of whom to the neighboring countries and others living in refugee camps under the protection of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
