IGAD Chief of staffs to meet in Khartoum Wednesday over South Sudan peace deal: Al-Intibaha

Octiober 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The army chief of staffs of the IGAD countries will meet in Khartoum next Wednesday to assess the South Sudan peace deal signed in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa last month, the Khartoum based Al-intibaha newspaper reported.

The SPLA Chief of General Staff Gen. Jok Riak is expected to take part in the high-level military meeting according to the newspaper.

The meeting comes ahead of an expected military meeting between the SPLA Chief of Staff, Gen. Jok Riak and his SPLA-IO counterpart Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual in the Sudanese capital over the security arrangement signed in Khartoum in August.

In a related development, the SPLM-IO Chairman and Commander in Chief Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon promoted to the rank of Leautenant General the Director General of the SPLM-IO National Security and Intelligence Service Gen. Yiei Dak from the Rank of Major General.

South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny signed the long awaited revitalized agreement in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa last month to end the five-year old brutakl civil war in the country.

The agreement, which provides for the formation of a transitional government of 36 months was also signed by the leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) Changson Lew Chang, Former Detainees and Other Political Parties based in Juba.
