September 13th 2018 (Nyamilepedia)Â – South Sudanese citizens are fleeing the northern Upper county of Maban for Ethiopia after the area was stroke by an acute hunger following the evacuation of aid agencies in July to flee violence by local youth groups.
In July this year, a group of disgruntled youth attacked headquarters of agencies in the town of Bunj to protest last of working opportunity leading to evacuation of aid agencies.
Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday, the coordinator of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, Alex Balla said a huge number of people have migrated from Bunj town following the outbreak of violence between the local youths and humanitarian aid agencies in July.
“If you’re talking about the current situation, right away as we speak, we have got a shortage of food in Greater Maban County,” he said.
He said people are immigrating to the neighboring Ethiopia to look for green pastures as the situation is deteriorating in the county.
“Now there’s an ongoing migration of the local residents, who are crossing the border from Bunj town to Ethiopia and there’s also another migration of the people from Banashowa to Damazin. Banashowa is a small town that’s bordering Udier, so people have gone to such places to collect food for themselves,” he told the Nyamilepedia.
