Humanitarian worker killed during Yei ambush

September 4th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A humanitarian aid worker has been killed during a road ambush in Yei River state according to the Community Empowerment for Progress (CEP).

The humanitarian worker identified as Joseph Kiri who was the Episcopal Church kg Sudan’s Provincial Youth Coordinator in Lainya county was killed near Limbe along Yei-Lainya road by unidentified gunmen.

In a brief statement seen by the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, the Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization Mr Edmund Yakani stronly condemned the act and said It’s an unacceptable act and will amount to a breach of humanitarian law.

South Sudan Government has been accused of reaching humanitarian obligations by a number of international humanitarian groups since the eruption of the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.

In August the Africa’s youngest nation topped the list of the most dangerous places for humanitarian aid workers for the third year in a row.

Death of Aid workers and restrictions of humanitarian agencies have been impeding humanitarian operations in South Sudan since 2013.
