November 9,2021–A high-level government delegation has traveled to Doha, Qatar, ahead of President Kiir’s first ever working visit to the Gulf nation.
The mission of the high-level delegation is to prepare the way for president Kiir ahead of his visit to Qatar as South Sudan aims to build stronger momentum in the middle east.
The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Qatar and South Sudan in areas which include but not limited to economy, security, peace, trade and infrastructure; however, president Kiir may also try to secure some loans to implement the peace agreement and to run his unpaid administration.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the South Sudan’s delegation comprises of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance and Planning, Minister of Investment, Roads and Bridges, Minister of Higher Education, Minister of Agriculture, Governor of Central Bank, Managing Director of the State Oil Firm, Nilepet and Secretary General of the Islamic Affairs, among others.
The first delegation was led to Doha yesterday by Country’s Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs Tut Gatluak Manime.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit is expected to join the delegation in Doha soon and that will mark his first ever working visit to gulf country.
The war-torn South Sudan owes Qatar National Bank more than $500 million in debts and it is not clear how much debts the president could secure during this visit.
