Hon. Nhial Deng meets RJMEC Chair, Maj. General Charles Tai Gituai

Sep 16, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial, met the Chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), Maj. General Charles Tai Gituai, today in the capital, Juba.

In a statement extended to Nyamilepedia, Hon. Nhial met the RJMEC Chairman to assess the progress made in the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and also to deliberate on possible ways forward.

“The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Nhial Deng Nhial met and held a consultative meeting with the interim chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) Maj. General Charles Tai Gituai.” Read part of the statement.

“The agenda of the meeting was to asses the progress of the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and the way forward.” The Presidential Affairs added.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Charles Tai said, they raised the pending issue of Upper Nile State governor and the need for the formation of the government at the state level.

In addition, Charles Tai called upon the armed group of Thomas Cirilo to denounce violence and respect the ceasefire agreement.

The Kenyan military general, Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai, took over the office of RJMEC on August 16, 2020 from his fellow Kenyan General,  Amb. Lt. Gen. Augostino Njoroge who was recalled by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Before coming into this position, Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai served as the Deputy Force Commander of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). He was in charge of Operations and Plans.

In this position, the Kenyan military commander will oversee the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement, a position that was once held by the former Botswana’s President Festus Gontebanye Mogae and Amb. Lt. Gen. Augostino Njoroge, who served as the interim Chairman of the RJMEC from May to August, 2020.
