January 17, 2022 — South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hon. Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, advised the youth of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM-(IO) to be active and productive.
Hon. Manawa Peter, who is also the Acting Spokesperson of the SPLM-(IO) party, said a few active members are far better than thousands of members who are not politically informed about the programs and activities of the party leadership.
Speaking during the dinner organized by the SPLM-IO Youth at the party General Secretariat in Juba, Minister Gatkuoth said youth should prepare and know themselves ahead of general elections expected to take place by 2023.
“My brothers and sisters, let us not just chant, Viva, Viva, we need to do something, we’re going for general elections after the completion of Security Arrangements, passing of country’s Permanent Constitution and graduation of Necessary Unified Forces”, Minister Manawa told SPLM-IO Youth on Sunday.
“After completing these perquisites, we’ll go for general elections but we cannot do that without knowing ourselves”, he added.
Hon. Gatkuoth advised the SPLM-IO Youth to register for party membership because it’s necessary prior to elections time.
“… We should register for party membership, some of you may say we’re many but nothing will work without unless we’re active and committed to party obligations”, Hon. Gatkuoth added.
“100 active members are far better than thousands inactive members, and you know a well informed 100 Cadres who are very active can change the country” he further emphasized.
Gatkuoth also called on SPLM-IO Youth not to use social media in a negative way urging them to use media as tool of mobilizing citizens to join SPLM-IO and as well as for disseminating gospel of peace in the country.
Hon. Manawa Peter Gatkuoth is serving as the SPLM-IO official spokesman, a position vacated by Cpt. Mabior Garang De Mabior last year amidst of his discontent over SPLM-IO policies.
Hon. Gatkuoth was appointed two years ago on the ticket of the SPLM-IO as country’s minister of water resources and irrigation.
