April 8, 2022 — South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hon. Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, along with Unity State Minister of Land and Housing, Hon. Lam Tungwar, met with the head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration [ IOM], Mr. Peter Van Der, and discussed flood issues.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, Mr. Gattiek Wichar, Press Secretary in the office of the Minister, said Hon. Manawa Peter, together with Unity State Minister of Land and Housing, Lam Tungwar, met with IOM Chief Mission. Peter Van, and deliberated on project to construct dyke in Unity State on floods mitigation in the areas submerged by water.
“.. Today Hon. Minister Manawa Peter, plus Unity State Minister of Land and Housing Hon. Lam Tungwar met with IOM chief in the country Peter Van and their meeting was mainly focused on natural calamities such as floods that effected most of our people in Greater Upper Nile Region or Unity State in particular “, Press Secretary Wichar told Nyamilepedia from capital Juba.
Wichar said Hon. Gatkuoth reflected on Ministry’s planon floods mitigation in the Country, saying the project to minimize the disaster will first be implemented in Unity State as soon the equipment plan for dyke arrives in Juba.
He added that the Ministry will dispatch a team of experts to Unity State that will help locals on how to use machines that will be used for floods mitigation.
” Minister Gatkuoth also said the technical experts will be sent to Unity State in order to train locals on how to operate and use the equipment before they reach capital Bentiu”, Wichar stressed.
According to Wichar, Unity State Minister of Land and Housing, Hon. Lam Twungar, called on the Ministry of Water Resources and National Government to expedite the dyke plan to alleviate natural calamity in the state.
He said IOM Chief Mission affirmed IOM’s plans to add its full support to flood affected population in Unity State.
“.. Peter Van of IOM said the UN agency and the partners are working hard to achieve the phrase two planning to construct roads to ease the importation of food commodities and to facilitate flowing of water in Unity State”, Wichar emphasized.
Last month Manawa Peter Gatkuoth said the Egyptian Government donated machines to his Ministry that can be used for opening Barh El-Ghazal Basin and River Nam in Unity State.
