December 26th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan opposition leader has urged President Salva Kiir Mayardit and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon to relinquish power and give the people of South Sudan the chance to chose a new leader of their choice.
Dr. Hakim Dario, leader of the holdout opposition People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) who maintains that Kiir is a criminal said on Tuesday in an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia that the people of South Sudan should reject both Kiir and Machar in leading the revitalized transitional government.
“Kiir and his indicted generals have yet to appear before a court of law the account for their crimes against the people and against the state,” Dario said adding that “the people should reject both Kiir and Riek from leading the R-ARCSS.”
He said the two should step down in the interest of peace and led a people-led government rebuild Africa’s news country which he said has been destroyed by the ruling SPLM party.
“The two should step aside and let a people’s government pick up the pieces of the SPLM destruction of our country,” he further said.
Under regional and international pressure, South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny signed a peace deal in September in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the war.
The agreement in Addis Ababa followed months of intense negotiations among delegates of the government and opposition who must, by the time, sign a pact or face international or further regional isolation.
The PDM was a part of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) before pulling out of talk in August in Khartoum citing failures by regional mediation to incorporate their concerns ranging from number of states during the transitional period to the question of federalism.
The IGAD has recently launched a campaign to try to convince the holdout opposition groups to join the signatories in the peace implementation.
