May 3rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s holdout opposition alliance, National Alliance for Democracy And Freedom Action (NADAFA), on Friday condemned the extra-judicial killings of two members of the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO.
On Tuesday, a United Nations panel of investigators said in a report that it gathered evidence that strongly believe that Dong Samuel Luak, a human rights lawyer, and Aggey Ezbon Idri, a senior SPLM-O member, were kidnapped from Kenya, brought to South Sudan and then killed on orders from South Sudan’s head of National Security Service, (NSS) Gen. Akol Koor Kuc.
Kiir’s government however dismissed the report and said instead Kenya should be asked for the disappearance of the two opposition members who have been believed to be under the NSS custody since their arrest in Kenya in January 2017.
In a statement issued on Friday, the holdout alliance led by Dr. Hakim Dario who is also the leader of People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), said it condemn the killings orchestrated by the state and its co-actors in the country.
“South Sudan NADAFA condemns in the strongest terms possible the unprecedented state sponsored perpetration of terrorist actions across international borders by President Kiir’s illegitimate government aided by Kenyan agents, his illegitimate First Vice President Taban Deng Gai and their cohorts,” they said in the statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.
“It is a gross abuse of basic human rights against innocent political opponents and a violation of the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, international law and treaties,” the statement added.
The opposition alliance further condemned the government of the republic of Kenya for “its failure to observe the Convention’s core principle which asserts that a refugee should not be returned to a country where they face serious threats to their life or freedom.”
The statement concluded by calling on the African Union to stick to its charter in protecting “human and people’s rights and holding its members Kenya and South Sudan liable for crimes against humanity and for contravening pertinent charters of the African Union.”
