Juba, South Sudan
April 2, 2022—Sudan’s Deputy Chairman of Transitional Sovereign Council Gen. Mohamad Hamdan Daglo “Hemmeti” has submitted the Sudanese proposal on the unification of the unified forces.
This comes less than 48 hours after Sudanese delegation led by Hemmeti arrived in Juba on Thursday in order to mediate the two major parties to the Agreement, SPLM (IO) and SPLM (IG).
In a statement by Press Unit of the office of the First Vice President, Gen. Daglo met with the First Vice President, who doubles as the Chairman of the main armed opposition, yesterday and the duo discussed issues to do with implementation of the Security Arrangements.
“.. His Excellency Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, the First Vice President of the Republic received and met today in his office with the Deputy Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Council, His Excellency General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo to discuss issues pertaining the implementation of the revitalized agreement particularly the security arrangements” the statement reads.
“.. General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo has submitted to Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon the Sudanese proposal on the establishment of the Unified Command Structure”, the statement added.
According to the statement, the meeting discussed in depth the proposal submitted by the mediation and concluded that the discussion between the parties shall continue until an agreement is reached on the matter.
Two weeks ago, the leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) suspended its participation in meetings of RJMEC and other security mechanisms in a protest against attacks on their forces by SSPDF in both Unity and Upper Nile states.
This move led the SPLM (IG) to besiege Dr. Riek Machar’s residence and all routes leading to his office.
Early this week the Sudanese government, which is the peace guarantor, and IGAD Chair advised the two parties to de-escalate such unnecessary tension saying all grievances should be resolved amicably as required by the peace agreement.
