Oct 28, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — On Wednesday, the Special Representative of UN Secretary General and the Head of UNMISS David Shearer briefed the president Salva Kiir Maryadit on the status of the implementation of the peace agreement.
According to statement shared by the presidential press, the meeting was to brief President Salva Kiir on the activities of UNMISS in the Country and discuss the status of the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
The statement further stated that the Special Representative of UN Secretary General, David Shearer shared UNMISS Plans rehabilitate and open some roads across the Country and the President reinforced the need for these projects to kick-start at the beginning of the dry season.
It added that, “H.E, President Salva Kiir and David Shearer both acknowledged the positive impact of road connectivity on security, peace and economic growth of the Country.”
The head of UNMISs appreciated the president for his support in the conversion of POCs to conventional displacement centers.
“The SRSG, David Shearer extended his appreciation to H.E, President Salva Kiir for the Government’s support in the re-designation of the POCs as conventional displacement camps and acknowledged the important role of State Governors and the SSNPS,” read the part of the statement.
Other subjects that were discussed in the meeting are the general situation of Jonglei State in regard to flooding and the humanitarian situation in the areas affected by the floods.
The president was also briefed on an Independent Strategic Review of UNMISS that aims to better align its mandate with the evolving peace process.
David Shearer also seized the moment to congratulate President Salva Kiir Mayardit on the completion of the structures on the allocation of responsibility sharing of States and Local Government amongst the various parties in R-TGONU.
