August 4, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Tensions are high at Unity oilfields in Unity state after armed soldiers from neighboring Ruweng Administrative Area attacked oil workers wounding one person, according to several sources.
The incident, one source said from Unity oilfield, began after authorities in Parieng called for a meeting with the administration of the GPOP to discuss environmental pollution and how to compensate communities.
“The administration of Ruweng in Parieng County called for a meeting between us and their representatives to discuss oil pollution and compensation,” the source, an oil worker who refused to be named, said from Unity this morning.
“After our representatives go there, they locked two of them inside a bathroom. And this let to clashes between our guards and their soldiers resulting in the wounding of one person,” the official said.
The official said all oil workers in Wuzin, an oilfield near Tomsouth, have been evacuated to Unity as fears for attack from Ruweng government-sponsored militia grows.
