January 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government is choosing who should carry out with it the dissemination of the revitalized peace agreement signed in September last year by the government and opposition groups, the National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin have said.
South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir signed a peace deal in September 2018 with opposition groups to end the ongoing five-year old conflict in the world’s youngest nation which has killed thousands and displaced millions.
The National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) formed by Kiir and opposition groups in September last year in December agreed to form four sub-committees to carry out pre-transitional activities.
Among these committee is the Peace dissemination committee which is supposed to be headed by the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) which fractured in November last year over the election of Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka as successor to Changson Lew who so far have refused to step aside.
In a report issued on Monday titled “Mid-Term Evaluation of the Implementation of the Pre-Transition Activities of the R-ARCSS”, the NDM said the government is unilaterally choosing who to work with in the peace dissemination.
“We have observed that the government has chosen some Parties to be involved in the dissemination of R-ARCSS to the exclusion of others. Delegations of the government and the Parties of its liking are touring some parts of the country claiming to be dissemination the R-ARCSS,” the group said in the report obtained by the Nyamilepedia.
It further said this action by the South Sudan government contradict the peace agreement signed by the parties in September.
“This action is contrary to the letter and spirit of the Peace Agreement. Dissemination will be useful and effective only when it is a collective inclusive exercise,” it added.
