May 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan protest organizers said on Tuesday in a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia that the government in Juba arrested and is detaining four of its members in an unknown location.
The statement claimed the four members were arrested last week after they approached one of the police stations in a Juba neighborhood to request from the authorities the permission to protest on May 16.
The group condemned the arrest and detention, which it said took place in a Munuki police station.
“The leadership of RCM is hereby condemning in the strongest term possible the arrest of our three representatives in Juba, South Sudan,” the statement said. “They were arrested on 10th of May after taking the letter to the police station at Muniki seeking permission for the ongoing soon to be mass demonstration in the country capital.”
The statement said the four members’ whereabouts were still not known asking the government of South Sudan to release them so as to enable them to participate in the would-be protest.
“Their whereabouts remain unknown and the RCM leadership cannot get in touch with them. We regret this and condemn it in the strongest term possible,” the statement said.
“We ask the government of South Sudan to release them as soon as possible so that they can participate in the protest,” the statement added.
