September 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has said that his decision to include holdout opposition leaders General Paul Malong and General Thomas Cirilo has been misunderstood.

Kiir made the remark during prayers on peace and healing at the Presidential Palace J1 in the capital Juba on Thursday.

“My pledge to include Paul Malong and Thomas Cirilo in the peace process has been misunderstood,” Kiir said. “Some thinks that my call for Malong and Cirilo to be included in the process means that the peace agreement will be renegotiated.”

Kiir said he is not ready for the reopening of the agreement for talks.

Malong and Cirilo previously said they would not accept joining the peace process unless it has been reopened for renegotiation.

“If this (peace renegotiation) is what they think, then I am not ready,” Kiir added.
