May 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government is reportedly considering accepting the extension of the pre-transitional period as proposed by opposition groups, which signed the revitalized peace agreement with the government almost a year ago.
A senior government official told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday that the government of President Salva Kiir is accepting the extension of the pre-transitional period to give time for action on activities which were not done.
“The government will accept the extension of the pre-transitional period because most of the activities of the pre-transitional period are not met as of this day,” the official told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity on Wednesday.
For his part, Puot Kang Chuol, a senior member of the SPLM-IO delegation to the IGAD meeting in Addis Ababa said his group wants to extend the pre-transitional period and would like to see the government agree to their demand.
“We would like to see an extension being agreed upon by the parties, but we would also like to see that the government is committed politically and resources wise, so that we implement the activities in the agreement,” the senior opposition member told AFP. “For now we believe we will reach a consensus.”
