Government spokesman undermines SPLM/A-IO split as a danger to the peace implementation

Juba, South Sudan

August 23, 2021 — The government spokesman and minister of information, communication technology and postal services, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth doubts if the SPLM/A-IO splits could jeopardize the implementation of the peace deal in the country.

Makuei, who serves as the official spokesman for the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R_TGoNU), sounds very confident that the internal crisis of the SPLM/A-IO will not in one way or another derail the implementation process of the 2018 peace accord despite public concern that the havoc might destabilize the country.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Makuei also calls on the conflicting factions to observe their recent agreed cease-fire and settle the issues peacefully meanwhile dismissing the speculations that the Incumbent Transitional Government of National Unity (I-TGoUN) has a hand on the ongoing SPLM/A-IO stalemate arguing that it is not logic for them to work against their peace partner.

“The official government spokesperson appealed to the both parties to cease hostilities, silence the guns and sit-down to resolves their issues amicably for the overall interest of the people of South Sudan.
Minister Michael Makuei further refuted the indications from the IO suspecting the Incumbent TGONU as per the R-ARCSS to have hands in the current differences which is unfair, there’s no way we can work against the partner to the peace agreement”, the statement by Information ministry says.

According to the Government official spokesman, the violence between the two factions is the internal dispute which has nothing to do with the implementation of the September 2018 peace agreement since IGAD will find a way to bridge their differences.

Makuei added that the opposition forces loyal to county’s first vice president will graduate without guns since they went to training centers with no arms.
