Sept 26, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– Following a heavy fighting between the warring factions near Bentiu in Unity State, many government soldiers allegedly surrendered to SPLA in Opposition in Pakur after they ran out of ammunitions.

According to military sources of SPLA in Opposition, a huge force of about 500 men is believed to have ran out of ammunition in Pakur on Sunday morning following a series of clashes in Wichbaar, Tong and Pakur of Koch County in Unity State.

The source claims that the forces were commanded by Deng Makur on the government side.

A confidential report wiretapped and extended to Nyamilepedia claims that Deng Makur, who is now a POW in SPLA-IO custody, reported to government headquarters in Juba that they ran out of ammunition and their T-72 tank ran out batteries.

Although most parts of Koch county were under rebels control before the recent fighting, it is yet to be confirmed how the government forces went on offensive at dawn and without enough supplies.

According to SPLA-IO military spokesman in Unity State, Weirail Puok Baluang, their positions came under heavy attacks at dawn on Sunday but their forces managed to repulse the government troops.

“In the early dawn of 25th Sept 2016, our self justifying positions at Wichbaar, Tong and Rolkuur (Pakuur) around Bentiu town came under manifold assaults from regime’s army and paramilitaries.” said Weirail Puok Baluang, the spokesman of SPLA-IO in Unity State.

“Nonetheless, our valiant army SPLA-I.O repelled them with vast mortalities inflicted on them as they were dreadfully running back toward Bentiu town.” Puok continued.

Calls to SPLA headquarters in Juba to commend on the fighting were not returned by the time of this report.
