Government Soldiers Killed At Least 8 Civilians In a Funeral in Loa, Magwi County

July 30, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— South Sudan government troops have killed at least 8 civilians and injured many others at a funeral in Loa of Magwi County, Easter Equatoria state.

According to reports extended to Nyamilepedia editorial team, government soldiers surrounded a funeral yesterday and started indiscriminate shooting at a mourning population in Loa.

At least 200 people were in attendance mourning their loved ones who have been killed in the war.

“We are civilians, no gun nothing. We gathered to mourn our sons and daughters who were killed in Juba, some along Juba-Yei road and other areas fighting Riek Machar” Said Kenyi, who spoke on behave of the group.

According to military reports, the soldiers were executing an order from the Chief of staff of SPLA (IG), Gen. Paul Malong Awan.

As part of circulating documents leaked from the army headquarters, Gen. Malong has ordered his soldiers to fire at any assembled groups for security purpose.

Although the mourners were seen wearing mostly black clothing, symbolizing a tragic event, soldiers in the area received reports and acted on it immediately without further investigation.

As a result of shooting many civilians from Magwi county have now fled the area for their own safety. Many civilians are seeing heading in the direction of Uganda.

This county is a constituent of senior government officials including Dr. Anne Itto and Ambassador John Andruga, who are loyal to Kiir’s government.
